New Catalogue Tuesday – Myths and Magic

So another day another suite….and this time it is the myths and magic suite.  This is a wonderful set if you have kids (and unicorn loving big kids too, although it is a rather portly looking unicorn 🙂 The stamp se/t has accompanying dies and also DSP which has glitter accents, and then a pack of 6 x 6 glitter cardstock too!  So all that glitters is Myths and Magic.  I used another new product on this project which I have never used before…Brushos.  I have to admit i was a little nervous about using it – but I watched a demonstration at Onstage (the bi-annual training for Stampin’ Up Demos  and decided to just dive in and have a go!  I saw somewhere that someone recommended that you make a single hole and then kept it closed with a push pin…that is a good tip – you need so little of it to have a dramatic effect that it is a good way of controlling it.

I created a standard card base and added a layer of Night of Navy, it doesn’t show up well in this photo but I preferred the finish.  i then cut a piece of watercolour cardstock and spritzed all over with water, I then added the Brilliant Red, Gamboge and Yellow.  Next i moved the card around to merge the colours and dried with a heat gun.  I set it to one side to finish drying and stamped my dragon onto another piece of watercolour card.  I added some Prussian Blue and Moss Green to separate puddles of water on a silicone mat and then used a paintbrush to paint the dragon. O

I then spent half an hour looking for the co-ordinating framelits to die cut the dragon…before eventually checking my order history to find I hadnt ordered them….a real face palm moment!

I then of course fussy cut the dragon (and added the framelits to my next order!

I added the dragon to the watercoloured panel with dimensionals then used the same technique as before to create a puddle of the Red and Gamboge colours and painted the dragon flames direct onto the card (fine paintbrush).  The final stage was to stamp the sentiment direct to the card in Archival Black.

I haven’t done a video yet, as I am not convinced I could get it done in 20 minutes with the drying time- but I might have a go let me know if a tutorial would be useful.

Anyway, I can really recommend both the suite and the Brushos, I can see it being a lot of (messy) fun

I hope you are enjoying this tour of the new products

Let me know 🙂

  1. Love the effects of Brusho. This is such a cute stamp set–Mine is on order, can hardly wait for it to come. Fabulous card.

  2. Heidi I think a video tutorial on using the Brushos would be beneficial. There are already a few demonstrators who have done a tutorial (Frenchie, Angie) but I think that different crafters have different views on how these should be used. Or it might be different ways they like to use them. I really think the effect you achieved in the background is fab and the fact that the dragon’s flames show up on top of the background layer is amazing. I read your blog and realised that you had mixed the Brushos and painted the dragon with them too. So many different techniques and skills that you really must share with us crafters please. Don’t worry about having a senior moment and not ordering the frame lits for the Magical Day stamp set. LOL :O)

  3. Your card is fabulous, really great! You could make a video and cut out or fast fwd. through the lengthy times of your work (also known as “the magic of TV,” LOL). Best wishes and thank you for explaining your process. 🙂

    1. I deliberately leave in all aspects so that people know how long it takes , it also gives the opportunity to demonstrate what to do if you go wrong
